Christian and Muslim faithful have been urged to actively contribute financially towards the development of their places of worship in bid to discourage politician from hijacking religious podiums and gatherings for political mileage.

Speaking during a fund raiser for a

mosque in Kapsogoi in Uasin Gishu, Sheikh Abubakar Bini the Chair of the Council of Imams & Preachers in Uasin Gishu County, noted with dismay that it has become a trend in the past few months leading to the August

polls.

“We are asking politicians to engage in politics but keep off places of worship. However, they are welcome for worship as any other ordinary worshipper,” he said.

“Their contributions will be welcome when they come to us as ordinary worshippers and not politicians.”

Bini also called on politicians to conduct their campaigns peacefully and urge supporters to maintain peace before, during and after the general elections.
